Library Grades & Expectations
Students in are graded on 3 major components: Preparedness, Participation, and Work Completion.
All students start with 100% in each category.
Each library class, the students are expected to come prepared to learn. Occasionally, they may need to bring something as assigned for that class, but most necessities are provided in class they just need to get them as directed. If a student is not prepared they will lose 5 points for preparedness that day. It is necessary to have learning materials to get the most out of every lesson.
Students are expected to participate in any and all class activities the teacher leads during the library period. These activities may include but are not limited to: listening to stories read aloud, on cd, or on mp3; reading individually, with a peer, or small group; writing a response to a selection or answer to questions; taking notes; utilizing research materials; checking out books; etc. If a student is not participating in the current activity assigned by the teacher, they will receive a warning. The second time 5 points are taken off their participation grade. The third time a note is sent home in the student's agenda and a homework assignment may be given to supplement the lesson the student failed to participate in. It is essential that students engage in educational activities for learning to occur.
Students will be given assignments during library class with ample time to complete. Students are expected to use their class time wisely to complete assignments. Lessons often build upon each other and it is important for students to complete each assignment to move onto the next lesson and gain valuable skills. If a student does not complete an assignment they will lose 5 points from their Work Completion grade.
Most work is completed during library class or in conjunction with a project in one of the core subjects (reading, math, science, social studies).
